Advent School Mass

See everyone tonight at the Family Advent Mass at Divine Infant Church. Mass starts at 7:00 p.m.

Google Accounts

Students are to practice logging onto their OCSB google accounts.  The address is:  

firstname.lastname@ocsbstudent.ca.

They can create presentations and documents that can be shared with teachers and fellow classmates.

Math Word Problems (K.T.A.C.)

Students tried a new strategy to solve word problems.  K.T.A.C. stands for knowledge, thinking, application and communication.  It helps students to break down the components in a problem and find greater success in solving it using a step by step approach.

Fictional Text Summary

Students are learning how to summarize a fictional text.  They are reminded to include important details from the beginning (setting, characters and problem), the middle (1st event, 2nd event, 3rd event and 4th event) and the end (solution).

Pay It Forward

Super discussions today on how to keep ourselves safe in the "digital world" our students are growing up in. When asked who was a part of an online community, every child stood up. We compared communities online and offline and discussed whether our behaviour should change in either.

They were challenged to think of a positive change they could do to make the world a better place.  Great discussion to have on this long weekend!

The Good Samaritan

We continue to relate the Parable of the Good Samaritan to being a responsible digital citizen.  Encourage dialogue about online safety.

Kindness Video

We are learning about being a Responsible Digital Citizen.  We started by watching a video.  Google "Life Vest Inside - Kindness Boomerang - One Day" and discuss with your child.

Please review the purple math sheets in your child's homework duotang. Students will have an independent task due shortly.  Also, visit the Nelson Mathematics Parent Site for some additional practice.

Students can now go online and play a variety of learning games.  They should know how to get on all of them.  These games include Dreambox Math (a letter went home today with the web address), Xtra Math, Raz kids and Prodigy Math.

Students are asked to go on Prodigy Math.  Their username and password are on the front page of their agenda.

All About Me Project

Your child has a special project!  They must choose at least 5 character traits that best describe them and state why. The outline is on the purple sheet they were given today. They were also given a lined sheet for their rough copy and a piece of construction paper for their finished project.  They can be as creative as they wish.  "All About Me" will be presented in class in October.
